The Area Stage Company and Theatre Conservatory will present Thornton Wilder’s Our Town, July 22, 7:30 p.m.; July 23, 7:30 p.m., and July 24, 5 p.m., at 1560 S. Dixie Hwy. in Coral Gables.
Described by Edward Albee as “…the greatest American play ever written,” the story follows the small town of Grover’s Corners through three acts: “Daily Life,” “Love and Marriage,” and “Death and Eternity.”
Narrated by a stage manager and performed with minimal props and sets, audiences follow the Webb and Gibbs families as their children fall in love, marry, and eventually — in one of the most famous scenes in American theater — die.
“While all of Wilder’s work is intelligent, non-synthetic and often moving, as well as funny, it is Our Town that makes the difference. It is probably the finest play ever written by an American,” said Edward Albee.
“Thornton Wilder’s masterpiece…An immortal tale of small town morality [and]…a classic of soft spoken theater,” reported The New York Times.
The prodcution features direction by Danny Capote, set design by JC Rodriguez, lighting design by JC Rodriguez, costume design by Maria Rodaz and stage management by Kenya Anthony-Moore.
Tickets are $25, $20 and $10. For information about the event, call 305-666-2078, visit www.areastagecompany.com or send email to frontdesk@areastagecompany.com.
