Joe Garcia has been fighting for Democrats and progressive causes in Miami his entire career. Born and raised in Miami, Garcia is a product of local Miami schools, from primary school to Miami-Dade Community College and the University of Miami where he earned both his bachelor’s and law degrees.
Garcia served on the Florida Public Service Commission, successfully lowering power bills for all Floridians. In 2008, President Obama appointed Garcia a director in the Department of Energy where he worked to cut energy bills for America’s families.
Garcia was elected to Congress in 2012, representing the 26th District. In Washington, he cut student loan rates by 50 percent, brought millions in job corp funding to Miami-Dade, and worked with President Obama on executive actions to reform the broken immigration system and allow Dreamers to stay in the US.
Now running again for Congress, he wishes to secure wins for South Floridians in immigration reform, pocketbook issues like flood insurance and student loan reductions, and deliver millions in federal investment to protect and preserve Florida’s environment and provide families with the resources they need to earn an honest wage.
