Jonathan Tabachnikoff will be installed officially as the Founding Rabbi of Congregation Dor Chadash — A New Generation — during a gala ceremony at the synagogue’s ballroom, 9400 SW 87 Ave., on Jan. 21.
The evening begins with a 6:45 p.m. cocktail party in the Tabor Social Hall, with the ceremony beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Dor Chadash sanctuary. Dinner follows in the ballroom.
“We are very excited about this installation and look forward to tremendous support from the community,” said Randee Breiter, who is co-chairing the event with her husband Russell. “The Tabachnikoff name is certainly well-known in the Kendall area as Jonathan continues his family’s proud tradition.”
Jonathan Tabachnikoff, 47, son of popular South Florida rabbi, the late Rabbi Barry Tabachnikoff, is leading Dor Chadash, which is housed in the award-winning building that was home to Bet Breira, his father’s synagogue. The temple is a unique mixture of both Reform and Conservative branches of Judaism that has gotten off to an outstanding start.
“As a ‘new’ congregation, we are off to a great start with more than 225 members already joining,” Tabachnikoff said. “We’ve also got a religious school with nearly 30 students, including more than 10 in the high school confirmation program. This is a perfect blend of Judaism that will, we believe, attract many people, especially new, younger families looking for affiliation.
“Statistics show that more young families have moved and are moving into our area. I think they’ll find us appealing, so the future looks bright for our growing congregation,”he added.
