MDC Kendall Campus Dance program and Jubilation Dance Ensemble is has announced its annual Artistry in Rhythm Dance Conference (AIR Dance Conference, April 20-22, at the Kendall Campus, 11011 SW 104 St. This years conference, “Anchored in Strength and Diversity: Forging Destinies,” will celebrate the range of diversity in our communities.
AIR Dance Conference is a movement symposium which seeks to explore the significance of community engagement through the vernacular of dance, encourage community development, and enhance the academic environment. The conference includes host of master dance classes, panel discussions, presentations, and performances. The conference is open to middle schools, high schools, colleges, and the community.
Guest artists such as Louines Louinis, artistic director of the Louines Louinis Haitian Dance Theatre, former member of the Katherine Dunham Dance Ensemble; Tara Chadwick, Meso Ameican Danza Learning Cycle, Ft. Lauderdale Historical Society; Monique Newton, Umfundali master teacher; Augusto Soledade, artistic director of Brazz Dance Theatre; Marisol Blanco, Afro-Cuban Dance master teacher, Sikan Afro-Cuban Dance Project; Loren Davidson; Brittany Williams, Obika Dance; Denzel Williams, and Bianca Robinson.
This year’s conference will include Contemporary Ballet, CaribFunk, and Modern Dance, Jazz, Hip-hop, Swing, and Acting/Music for Dancers, Pilates, yoga and much more.
Thursday, Apr. 20, 7 p.m. — Opening Gala Concert, Room G208;
Friday, Apr. 21, and Saturday, Apr. 22, 9 a.m.-4:15 p.m. — Master Classes, panel discussion,and presentations;
Friday and Saturday, Apr. 21 and 22, 7:30 p.m. — AIR Dance Performance, McCarthy Theatre (Room 6120). Evening performances will feature the work of selected student choreographic works, faculty work, guest artist.
The cost of the conference is $25 for all students of Miami-Dade Public Schools, Miami Dade College, the community, staff, and faculty.
