Community leaders continue to rally behind Gelber campaign
Dan Gelber announced today that his campaign for Miami Beach Mayor has received the endorsement of former Miami Beach Commissioner Ed Tobin. This endorsement comes as the campaign carries forward with strong momentum in our community following the recent campaign kickoff on February 28 at the Miami Beach Golf Club.
Ed Tobin, Former Miami Beach City Commissioner, said, “I am proud to endorse Dan Gelber in his campaign for Mayor of Miami Beach. Miami Beach needs a Mayor who will stand with its residents. Dan has a history of taking principled stands for what is right, and Dan’s sense of civic responsibility is unequalled. Dan spent nearly 30 years as a Big Brother in the Big Brothers program, served us as an effective legislator in the Florida House and Senate, and was a top former federal corruption prosecutor.
On a personal note, many years ago Dan invited me to be a summer counselor at a camp he co-founded for children with cancer. I had the chance to see up close the kind of extraordinary caring, compassion and leadership Dan displayed with the children and families we served. Born on Miami Beach, Dan Gelber was raised to believe in public service. His father, respected former Miami Beach Mayor Seymour Gelber, and his mother, beloved long-time Beach High Spanish Teacher Edith Gelber were models of service. Dan lived these principles through service as a federal prosecutor for nearly a decade, handling public corruption prosecutions, and eventually becoming a decorated top deputy. Dan also served Miami Beach as a Florida State Representative and Senator where he was unanimously elected the House Democratic Leader. Dan has been a Big Brother in the Big Brothers program for decades, and co-founded a camp for kids with cancer where he volunteered most summers.
