O’Farrill Learning Center, a private, non-profit, organization in Miami is providing free Head Start and Voluntary Prekindergarten Education (VPK) programs for children under six years of age
With an eye on general student well being, the center is also offering free year-round literacy, fitness, social skills and enrichment curricula conducted out-of-school for school-age children. Focusing on performance metrics, it also provides support to children in Kindergarten through 5th Grade to achieve high marks on the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA).
The FSA was put in place by the Florida Department of Education to measure performance of Florida K-12 students in reading, writing and math.
The 501(c)3 community-based center, designated as a “Gold Seal Quality Care Program Provider” by the Florida Department of Children and Families, has provided top quality educational and social services since 1997 to more than 2,000 low-income children and families in Miami-Dade County. The Gold Seal moniker denotes quality standards in the level of care and supervision provided to children at accredited childcare facilities.
The organization has received national kudos as well: accredited nationally since 1999, the agency has also been recognized with of The Children’s Trust
The free Head Start and VPK programs at O’Farrill Learning Center offer activities to stimulate growth in all children. The programs also ensure school readiness for children entering Kindergarten; provide access for special needs children to mental health and psychological services; and assist families with low incomes to achieve self-sufficiency.
