AT&T has contributed $25,000 to The WOW Center in Miami to help adults with developmental disabilities.
The WOW Center is an Adult Day Training (ADT) center that serves more than 190 adults with developmental disabilities who range in age from 21 to 79.
The center will use the contribution to support its Work Opportunity Ventures Program. The educational/training program builds strong community partnerships to provide internship opportunities for future workforce success for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. These programs are designed to help this population lead meaningful and productive lives, explore their potential, develop a sense of community, and pursue independence and a job.
“Allowing adults with developmental disabilities the opportunity to achieve independence and the ability to pursue a career is something that we are very proud to contribute to,” said Katherine San Pedro, regional director of External Affairs, AT&T Florida.
WOW provides enriching and supportive activities and experiences for the adults it serves, including life and work skills, technology lab, art, sports and fitness, music therapy, community based education, supported employment, speech therapy, occupational therapy, social services, Special Olympics, and a Kiwanis Aktion Club.
