Medications drop-off bin

Last year, the City of Coral Gables became the first municipality in Miami-Dade County to partner with Covanta Dade Renewable Energy to take back unused prescription drugs to avoid misuse at home and dispose of them in an environmentally safe manner.

After a year of collecting the medications at a drop-off bin installed at the lobby of the Public Safety Building, the city disposed of 139.7 pounds of prescription drugs that historically would have gone either to landfills or flushed down the toilet.

Expired or unwanted prescription drugs can still be dropped off 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in the lobby of 2801 Salzedo St.
