The Earth Keepers Club at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center has announced its Ambassador roster for the 2017-18 school year.
These 11 students from across Miami-Dade County will be representing the club and its conservation efforts at their own schools. Each of the students took the initiative of applying and interviewing for their spots, and demonstrated their strong commitment to conservation and environmental issues.
Also this year the group is excited about two new partnerships. First, the International Sea Keepers Society has invited select Earth Keeper club members to participate in one of its research excursions. Earth Keepers Club also is working with nationally recognized animal activist Yolanda Berkowitz, who will lead the group in saving and protecting rescue pets as well as promoting humane treatment for animals everywhere.
The Earth Keepers Club was founded by Daelyn Einhorn of Ransom Everglades School and became the formal kids and teens program at the Biscayne Nature Center in 2012. Today, the club is open to students of all ages and has ore than 500 members from over 30 schools in Miami-Dade County and Broward County. The club hosts five events during the school year that have included shark dissections, water pollution testing programs, teen kayaking excursions, squid dissections, nature photography lessons and beach cleanups.
We hope to see you on the beach!
