An annual book sale conducted by volunteers dedicated to helping the library system of Brandeis University will return on Sunday, Mar, 18, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It again will be located in front of the Publix Supermarket on S. Dixie Highway at 147th Street in Palmetto Bay.
The thousands of books donated for the fundraiser are hardcovers and trade paperbacks, most worth $25 or more. All are in excellent condition and prices are very low.
“We have lots of books on world history and American history,” said Linda Zahler, one of the event organizers. “There’s a huge amount of children’s books and art books, and a very nice selection of travel books and cookbooks. There are hundreds of novels.”
The proceeds will benefit Brandeis University Libraries, Scholarships and Research and the event was organized by the South Miami Chapter of Brandeis National Committee.
The Brandeis University National Women’s Committee is the largest “friends of a library” group in the world with 48,000 members nationwide.
Zahler said that one reason the book sale is so popular is that all of the used books are sold to raise money to buy new books for the library. She said that Publix has been hosting the book sale for years now and that her organization is grateful for the company’s help.
