South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center, 10950 SW 211 St. in Cutler Bay, presents Tango Lovers on Saturday, Apr. 21 at 8 p.m.
Directly from Argentina and Uruguay, Tango Lovers Company arrives with a troupe of 24 world-class tango musicians, dancers and singers to bring I Am Tango to cities throughout the U.S. The live music will be led by the young prodigy considered one of the four best bandoneons in the world, Lautaro Greco, and the 12 dancers will be directed by the first dancer Tere Sánchez Terraf, who graduated from the prestigious Juilliard in New York.
Uruguayan singer and founder of the company Alfredo Lérida will lead the staging and production. With the aim of presenting new artistic proposals and to continuing its innovation and creativity objectives, I Am Tango is the third production of Tango Lovers Company which has received awards for “Best Show of the Year” by the Association of Critics of Entertainment of New York (ACE, 2015) and Fox Music USA (2017) and for “Best International Production” by the Association of Entertainment Producers of Uruguay (2016, 2017). The show has a unique perspective with an exquisite and glamorous balance of classical and stage tango.
The story, written by the executive director of the company, unfolds through a character called “Tango” who travels through different times and situations. Tango questions its essence that is represented by the bandoneon player, the musician who masters the instrument that identifies tango. Tango observes that over the years the genre evolved by making fusions with other rhythms such as jazz, ballet and contemporary music, but it proves that the essence of tango still remains as the same sensual and passionate music that has influenced people and cultures all over the world.
From the golden years to the present, I Am Tango by Tango Lovers creates the appropriate atmosphere through music, dance, costumes, lighting and multimedia. With a dynamic and versatile show, the audience cannot blink their eyes when enjoying this wonderful presentation and the talent of an extraordinary cast.
