While many Rotarians are in Toronto for the Rotary International Convention, those who are not attending may want to join Pinecrest Rotarians to hear from Seth Bramson, Professor of History at Barry University. As guest speaker, Bramson will discuss The History of Discrimination in South Florida, at the Rotary Club of Miami Dadeland Pinecrest’s meeting starting at 7 p.m. on June 26. Bramson is the founder and current president of the Miami Memorabilia Collectors Club and his collections of Miami memorabilia and Floridiana are the largest in private hands in the country. He has also written 30 books on South Florida’s local history and is the single most published Florida history book author in America. Rotarians, are always, are invited to attend as well as members of the South Florida community.
The Pinecrest Rotary Club meets every month on the fourth Tuesday, 7-9 p.m., at the Dadeland Marriott Hotel, 9090 S. Dadeland Boulevard, to discuss international and community service projects and to hear interesting speakers. For further information contact Program Chair Ron Lieberman, 305-613-6744, miamilawyr@gmail.com.
In other Rotary news, among the many in Toronto this week for the Rotary International Convention is Coral Gables Rotary’s incoming president Susan Fornaris. Susan joins others from District 6990, including the District’s Governor-Elect Peter Verbeeck as well as some 45,000 Rotarians from around the world.
Susan takes over on July 1 but has already been installed with her board on June 7 at the Hotel Colonnade. The hotel generously sponsored wine, beer, sodas and passed hors d’oeuvres while many took advantage of the gaming tables to pay pool and shuffle board. The Hotel Colonnade’s Game Room was a perfect setting for RCCG’s incoming President Susan Fornaris who is adding one more check to Rotary’s Four Way Test, her fifth test being: “Is it Fun for all concerned.” If the Installation was any indication, this year is off to a great start. Past District 6990 Governor Ellen Blasi officiated over the installation attended by about 40 people. Several Coral Gables Rotarians who are Pinecrest residents in attendance included Past President Greg Martini and Ron Gerstl as well as 2017-2018 President John Porro, and several other Past Presidents including Yolanda Woodbridge, David Mitchell, Felix Pardo, Frank Sexton, Walter Alvarez, and Keith Phillips III as well as Susan’s husband, Sam Fornaris, and her mom; Terry and Charlie Gomes, Elisabetta Bell, Bill Quesenberry, Jim Skinner, Hadley Williams, and Nico Eterovic.
Until next time, keep making each day count.
