The annual Cutler Bay – Whispering Pines 4th of July Celebration was favored with great weather and drew a large crowd this year. It took place at Whispering Pines Park on Ridgeland Drive, and as always began with a parade of participating residents.
Mayor Peggy Bell was pleased with the turnout and the way everyone in the community enjoyed the event. She also liked the flyover by jets of the 482nd Fighter Wing from Homestead Air Reserve Base.
“Our 51st annual Independence Day celebration was a huge success, attracting even more people than last year,” said Mayor Bell. “Everyone was enjoying themselves, in their decorated golf carts, cars and even horses. The crowd was wowed by an amazing flyover, tipping their wings in honor of the day. It truly was an inspirational event, reminding us that no matter where our families came from we are all Americans thanks to those who created this ‘perfect union’.”
Besides the parade, which ran from about 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., there was also a cookout, live music, snow cones, a super slide and bounce house, face painters and other activities.
