Tropical Audubon Society’s Conservation Concert series returns on Jan. 26 with Take Sixx inaugurating the Birding organization’s 10th anniversary “ConCon” season. This milestone also marks Take Sixx’s 10th consecutive appearance on the storied Doc Thomas House Keystone Stage at 5530 Sunset Dr.
Welcome back Take Sixx founding members Dr. Steve Chavoustie (keyboards/harmonica), Harold Norman (drums) and Dr. Ron Sancetta (vocals) together with band mates Luz Angela (vocals/guitar), Dr. Enrique Hernandez (bass guitar) and Aaron Whitman (lead guitar).
“We enjoy the intimate venue here. We feel strongly about supporting an organization that helps protect Biscayne Bay and the Everglades, and we know the funds that are raised stay right here in our own backyard,” Chavoustie said.
It was Chavoustie’s enthusiasm that planted the seed for Tropical Audubon’s Conservation Concert series. While attending a memorial service held here in 2009 for a family friend, he noticed the then-bare chickee for which there were no funds for repair.
He immediately suggested, “Let’s hold concerts here and raise the money for a new thatch!”
In the interim, the chickee has been re-thatched twice and countless other needed repairs and improvements have been made to the house and grounds.
Chavoustie and his band mates encourage the community to turn out on Jan. 26 to enjoy the group’s rich repertoire of classic and contemporary hits under the stars and Audubon oaks.

Plan B is scheuld to perform on Saturday, Feb. 23; March and April bands and dates to be announced.
Picnic tables available on a first-come basis. Gates open at 7 p.m.; music begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10 donation per person (cash); children 12 and under are free. There is limited free parking via the 55th Avenue auto gate and along 56th Avenue; metered parking is available on Sunset Drive; various garage and valet parking options are within 1-3 blocks; Metrorail service to South Miami Station.
Proceeds benefit capital improvements to the grounds and historic buildings.
