Miami Dade College’s (MDC) School of Business, Center for Financial Training at MDC, CareerSource of South Florida and the Cuban American National Council (CNC) once again partner to host the 2019 Future Bankers’ Camp, a program that for the past 12 years has provided hands-on experience for high school students interested in careers within the financial services sector.
The educational component is a two-week ABA (American Bankers Association) program taking place June 3-14 at MDC’s Wolfson Campus, followed by internships June 17–28, at various locations throughout Miami-Dade County. The program culminates with a graduation ceremony on Thursday, June 27.
This year’s track also includes Bank Teller Training. Upon successful completion of the camp, students are eligible to receive the American Bankers Association Bank Teller Certificate. Students who graduate will earn summer school credits and can apply for dual enrollment credits towards an associate degree in financial services and receive National Academy Foundation (NAF) Certification.
With 32 local banks/financial institutions supporting the Future Bankers’ Camp, this innovative program includes various educational opportunities for students to enhance their math, communication and financial literacy skills, including completion of a two-week internship and industry certification with the goal of preparing them for college and careers in financial services. This initiative is aligned with the school district’s partnership and involvement in the One Community One Goal Targeted Industry Implementation Plan.
Now in its 12th year, the Future Bankers’ Camp welcomes 110 students enrolled in 12 Academy of Finance programs at local high schools including: Barbara Golemanl, Coral Gables, Coral Reef, Dr. Michael M. Krop, Hialeah Gardens, Miami Edison, Miami Jackson, Miami Springs, Miami Sunset, North Miami Beach and South Dade, as well as William H. Turner Technical Arts High School.
Participating banks and organizations include Apollo Bank, Amerant Bank, Bac Florida, Banco Pichincha, Banco Santander, Banesco USA, Baptist Health South Florida FCU, BBVA Compass Bank, Biscayne Bank, Capital Bank, City National Bank, Continental National Bank, FirstBank Florida, First National Bank of South Miami, Florida International Bankers Association (FIBA), Grove Bank & Trust, Helm Bank, International Finance Bank, JetStream Federal Credit Union, JP Morgan Chase & Co., Marquis Bank, Morrison Brown Argiz & Farra LLC (MBAF), Ocean Bank, Pacific National Bank, Popular Bank, Power Financial Credit Union, Professional Bank, South Florida Banking Institute, Sunstate Bank, TD Bank, Wells Fargo Bank and U.S. Century Bank.
