Jim Skinner, newly installed 2019-20 Rotary Club of Coral Gables president, presents Dr. Susan Fornaris, outgoing president, with her diamond past president’s pin and plaque.

Coral Gables Rotary recently recognized outgoing board members and installed the club’s 2019-20 officers and board during a luncheon meeting on June 27 at the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables.

It was the last meeting as president for Dr. Susan Fornaris. She even added a fifth test to the club’s Four Way Test: Is it fun for all involved. Before giving up the podium, she called on her board giving each member a certificate acknowledging a donation in their name to pay for 20 polio inoculations through Rotary’s Polio Plus campaign worldwide.

As part of her last duties as outgoing president, Dr. Fornaris announced a few special awards for outstanding Rotarians. This year, Aaron Glasser received a Silent Rotarian Award for his work flying below the radar but quietly working the check-in desk at every meeting week in and week out. The President’s Award went to a person who most people consider to be the face of Rotary, past president Yolanda Woodbridge.

Finally, the biggest award (always a secret until announced) went to the club’s membership chair Nicolas Eterovic, a man whose passion for the Rotary’s mission of “Service Above Self” has inspired many new people to join the club this year.

The award presentations were followed by the installation of the new board officiated over by District 6990 Governor Drew Monaghan as one of his last acts before his term ends. Incoming officers include president, Jim Skinner; president-elect Kelly Garces; treasurer, Bill Quesenberry, and secretary, Sally Baumgartner Goodman.

The Rotary Club of Coral Gables meets every Thursday at 12:15 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables. Visiting Rotarians always are welcomed. Lunch is $29.
