A grassroots organization formed earlier this year, and led by the son of Cuban baseball magnate Roberto “Bobby” Maduro, is trying to elevate his legacy in order to reach Cooperstown’s hollowed portals.
The initiative, spurred by Jorge Maduro, Bobby’s oldest surviving son, seeks to advance the ideals and unfulfilled dreams of Bobby Maduro by using the game of Baseball, Art and Music to bring together individuals, families, communities and countries. Cooperstown, N.Y., is home to the National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum.
“We have a mission statement,” says Jorge, “to transform the cities and countries in which we are active by partnering with the business community, government, non-profit organizations, churches, synagogues, temples, social and civic community organizations, and all men and women of good-will to inspire individuals, both young and adults, to live a balanced lifestyle in order to reach their full potential.”
“Friends of Bobby Maduro For Cooperstown Hall of Fame Election” was established in March 2019 with the main goal of getting Bobby Maduro nominated for the November 2020 Veteran’s Committee voting by the National Hall of Fame. The group is also attempting to nominate Maduro for the prestigious Buck O’Neil Lifetime Achievement Award, which is handed out every three years by the Cooperstown Hall of Fame, the next cycle due in 2020.
Membership into the organization is offered for a one-time only fee of $25. For information contact Lou Hernández 786-238-0343 or Jorge Maduro 305-726-9562.
