The CGWC fifth annual Children’ Festival will take place on Saturday, Jan. 25, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., at the clubhouse. Families from all over the county are welcomed to bring their children to 1001-9 E. Ponce de Leon Blvd. for the free day of fun and educational activities.
There will be demonstrations by the Police Canine Unit, an obstacle course set up by the Coral Gables Firefighters, and, new this year, a Butterfly Experience. This new feature allows children to feed nectar to the butterflies.
Festival goers also will enjoy a great day thanks to sponsor Capitol One and food courtesy of R Catering, and coffee thanks to Ruta Maya Coffee.
This busy club also holds monthly Gringo Bingo games and most recently raised funds for Joshua’s Heart Foundation on Jan. 7.
While the club is preparing for its Feb. 29 Gala for the free children’s dental clinic, it continues with the monthly bingo parties at Clutch thanks to owner Steven Bradley and DJ German who donates his services with music. On Feb. 4, the beneficiary will be the National Alopecia Areata Foundation. To reserve tickets, email gloria@cnews.net.
In other festival news, the Junior Orange Bowl Golf Tournament at the Biltmore Golf Course concluded in January with golf chair JR Steinbauer presenting trophies to the Girls Champion, Mizuki Hashimoto from Japan, and Boys Champion, Andrey Borges of Brazil. Kudos to all those who competed this year, traveling from all over the world for their chance to compete in this prestigious invitational tournament.
In other club news, the Woman’s Club of Coconut Grove installed a new slate of officers with a ceremony at its clubhouse. The team that will serve going into 2020 will include Virginia Yermoli, president; Toni Valarezo, first vice president; Fan Zhang, second vice president; Pat Vegnani, treasurer; Bobbi Rosenberger corresponding secretary; Phoebe Webb, parliamentarian; Anne MacDonald-Korth, director; Karen Bernal Cunningham, recording secretary, and Charity Johnson, director. On hand to officiate the installation was Anita Jenkins, who serves as president of Coco Plum Woman’s Club and a GFWC Florida member-at-large.
On the cultural front, Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre begins a great season.
