CGWC 5th Annual Children’ Festival will be held on Saturday, January 25, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., at their clubhouse. Families from all over the county are welcomed to bring their children to 1001-9 East Ponce de Leon Blvd. for the free day of fun and educational activities from demonstrations by the Police Canine Unit, an obstacle course set up by the Coral Gables Firefighters, and new this year, a Butterfly Experience. This new feature allows children to actually feed nectar to the butterflies. Festival goers will also enjoy a great day thanks to sponsor Capitol One and food courtesy of R Catering, and coffee thanks to Ruta Maya Coffee.
This busy club also holds monthly Gringo Bingo games and most recently raised funds for
Joshua’s Heart Foundation on January 7 While the club is also preparing for its February 29 Gala for their free children’s dental clinic, they continue with the monthly bingo parties at Clutch thanks to owner Steven Bradley and DJ German who donates his services with music. On February 4, the beneficiary will be the National Alopecia Areata Foundation. To reserve tickets, email gloria@cnews.net.
In other festival news, the Jr. Orange Bowl Golf Tournament at The Biltmore Golf Course concluded in January with Golf Chair JR Steinbauer presenting trophies to the Girls Champion, Mizuki Hashimoto, from Japan; and Boys Champion, Andrey Borges, of Brazil.
Kudos to all those who competed this year traveling from all over the world for their chance to compete in this prestigious invitational tournament.
In other club news, the Woman’s Club of Coconut Grove installed a new slate of officers with a ceremony at their clubhouse. The team that will serve in 2020 will include Virginia Yermoli, President; Toni Valarezo, First VP; Fan Zhang, Second VP; Pat Vegnani, Treasurer; Bobbi Rosenberger Corresponding Secretary; Phoebe Webb, Parliamentarian; Anne MacDonald-Korth, Director; Karen Bernal Cunningham, Recording Secretary; Charity Johnson, Director. On hand to officiate the installation was Anita Jenkins, who serves as President of Coco Plum Woman’s Club and GFWC a Florida Member-At-Large.
On the cultural front, Actors Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre begins a great season.
