Three high school students at Gulliver Prep in Pinecrest, Bradley Karmin ‘21, Ryan Gibeau ‘22 and Matias Ortiz ‘21, have developed Spondooli, a stock market simulator app that delivers the newest way to learn the stock market in a safe environment. The app uses Python to get real time stock prices and presents it in an easy-to-understand, no-pressure environment. Users are taught to experience the app, learn what it’s like to invest and track how an investment performs.
These students were recently honored with an invitation from Harvard University to demo the Spondooli app at Harvard’s annual Computer Science Fair attended by college students and professionals from the world’s top tech companies. The Spondooli team was the only high school team invited to present at the Fair. As a result of Spondooli’s success and quick acceptance, Gulliver Prep plans to integrate the use of the app in the Upper School’s International Business and Entrepreneurship curriculum.
Gulliver’s Computer Science Faculty – Mr. Dean Morell and Mr. Jesse de Vera – combine STEM education, entrepreneurial learning and group collaboration to lead students through app development and the identification of real life solutions.
