Classes will begin virtually on Aug. 31.
As families and educators prepare for the unconventional start of the 2020-21 academic year, a local non-profit charter school is providing its students with the necessary equipment and materials to kick-start virtual learning.
Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP) Miami, part of a national non-profit network of public charter schools, hosted a week-long back to school supply drive-through to provide families with materials needed to start the 2020-21 academic year on Aug. 31.
Conducted across KIPP’s campuses (KIPP Sunrise Academy and KIPP Courage Academy) in Liberty City and Little West River, students picked up their Chromebooks, WiFi hot spots, book bags filled with workbooks, and brand new uniforms that students will be wearing throughout their virtual learning experience. Families unable to attend the drive-throught events received their supplies throughout the following week as KIPP Miami’s team began making home deliveries.
“KIPP is working to make sure all of our families are ready to log on to their first day of school — virtually,” said Monica Kress, managing director of operations at KIPP Miami.
“While we know remote learning isn’t the same as in-person classroom instruction, we’re committed to offering our students a dynamic online experience that provides a robust and rigorous education that will further prepare them for college and future success.”
