The Miami Design District is preparing for an eye-catching new addition — ENNE.
Established in 1999, the international interior design label produces high-end furniture that emphasizes bold, streamlined forms balanced by meticulously crafted ergonomics. ENNE utilizes a tightly controlled design and production process in which every step of their signature home decor pieces are made in-house by their interior design team and assembled by their craft house, all based in Turkey. Their final pieces are then quality-controlled for precision, durability, and final finishes that ENNE keeps secret before shipping out to various markets where they command steep premiums.
The label’s background in Turkey informs their singular style. Situated in the geographic meeting point of Europe and Asia, this East-meets-West cultural infusion works subtly through ENNE’s design from their collection concepts to their distinct organic color palettes.
This is all done to communicate simplicity and sophistication, albeit with an exotic glamour and edge.
During the past 20 years ENNE’s designers have created several prominent layouts furnished with their signature decor in premier venues such as the Kempinski Grand Hotel in Russia’s exclusive Black Sea resort town of Gelendzhik as well as the Asian-Parisian fusion Hôtel de Nell in the theater-lined 9th arrondissement of Paris.
They have attracted growing European media attention over the past five years with features in French and Turkish design magazines including Elle Déco and Marie Claire Maison. More recently, they have become a staple at various international interior design expositions in Milan, New York City and Dubai since 2017.
This increased visibility has led ENNE to dramatically expand their corporate representation to now span over 15 countries including France, Israel, India, Hong Kong, Australia, and Egypt. With growing popularity and a strong base across Europe and Asia, ENNE is now pivoting to the U.S. market. In doing so, they have strategically chosen Miami as the entry point into the Americas.
Their next ambitious signal came when they tapped Coral Gables-based Permuy Architecture to design this flagship location. Permuy Architecture has developed a long reputation for high profile projects and an international clientele. Recent examples include the City Zero fitness and dance center by Zumba Fitness founder Beto Perez and glass industrialist-turned-developer Sam Moussa’s Aqua Azure estate, which has drawn comparisons to Frank Lloyd Wright’s iconic Fallingwater.
Choosing Permuy Architecture also was an acknowledgement of ENNE placing priority on building bridges and planting roots in the area. This is underscored by the Permuy family’s long history of community engagement stretching back to the 1970s. Earlier this year firm principal Jesús Permuy — respected architect, city planner and community leader — was honored with a Downtown Miami street designation for his contributions to South Florida.
ENNE Miami will be located in the heart of the Miami Design District on NE 39th Street, steps away from the epicenter of Miami’s premier luxury storefronts of Hermès, Cartier, Tiffany and Co., and Dior. Nevertheless, ENNE is not looking to blend in but to make waves with their usual flair.
In a bold nod to the label’s international heritage, the facade is encased in striking imported Turkish stone, which has been smoothed and polished to emphasize the controlled earthy elements central to ENNE designs. The stone is lined with gold-hued aluminum which also makes up the handles to the immense doors of yet another Turkish stone.
This symbolic and dramatic entrance communicates an underlying balance and prepares the viewer for their experience inside. The interior maintains the theme by integrating steel, stone, wood, and glass. The overall feel is an elegantly blended Modern-Contemporary aesthetic, translated into a gallery of statement pieces.
Another highlight is the stunning steel and glass mezzanine that anchors the interior. There is significant attention to detail throughout in using bold geometry to define space, as well as controlled contrast between gloss and matte surfaces to keep the eye engaged and create mood.
Speaking on the design concept, Permuy Architecture president Ignacio Permuy said, “This is a big moment for ENNE, finally planting their flag in the U.S. for the first time. We wanted to use this moment to make a strong statement in line with their history and the impeccable elegance that they have become known for abroad. Our team has made sure this venue reflects that.”
With their rapid growth leading to this point, the ENNE team have indicated that this is only the beginning. Looking beyond COVID-19 and into their next five years, ENNE already is scouting potential future locations in Coral Gables and Brickell as well as New York City and eventually the West Coast. The ENNE and Permuy teams anticipate the flagship grand opening in the first quarter of 2021.
