We have lived through a year of dangerous days. Over the past year, we’ve been tested, we’ve adapted, and we have overcome. Throughout it all, we have remained true to the values that make Miami GREAT. Our commitment to personal, economic, and political freedom has made Miami, Miami. It has kept us strong, yet adaptable; hopeful, yet practical; resolute, yet resilient.
Now is the time not only to survive but to thrive. And the role of government is to secure our freedoms—and to ask our residents in a simple way–how can I help? This has been a rallying cry for an entirely new set of people—residents and entrepreneurs, homeowners and business owners, investors and newcomers. It has ignited a movement across the country and has resonated with so many people because it has reminded people of something that, these days, is easily forgotten.
As your Mayor it is my job to help YOU. To help your FAMILY; to help your SONS; To help your DAUGHTERS; and your GRANDSONS and GRANDAUGHTERS; And most important of all, my job is helping YOU reach your DREAMS and pursue your FUTURE. To achieve this, I have appointed SAIF ISHOOF as the Mayor’s Senior Advisor for Innovation and Technology, and I am asking the City Manager to start realigning our existing economic development infrastructure into a new office called VENTURE MIAMI.
We are not New York. We are not San Francisco. WE ARE MIAMI. And Miami we will stay. Past generations arrived in Miami seeking freedom, opportunity, and the American dream. And they didn’t just find it. They built it for themselves and for anyone else with the heart and grit to do it. And now when a new generation of newcomers flee state or municipal governments with oppressive taxation, censorship, and the persecution of creative people, Miami offers them the same opportunity to share their dreams, their talents, and their ambitions. OUR VISION for bringing high-quality, high-paying jobs to our City is to prepare Miami RESIDENTS and their CHILDREN for the future and to create the next generation of leaders right here IN MIAMI.
We realize that drawing owners and executives of tech companies to Miami is not enough: we need to put our people first—by building and investing in a workforce development pipeline. And It isn’t about importing the worlds brightest minds, we already have them HERE. It’s about forming and fostering Miami’s brightest minds by ensuring that Miami has a world-class education system! Right now, 76% of African American and 62% of Hispanics could get shut out or be under-prepared for 86% of jobs in the US by 2045. But right here in Miami, we produce the most Hispanic engineers and African American STEM scientists in America. And as long as I am Mayor of Miami, we will do everything in our power to expand these opportunities for ALL OF OUR CHILDREN so they can live, work, and STAY in Miami—turning our MIAMI MOMENT into a MIAMI MOVEMENT.
Miami is more than a city—it is an idea, a dream, and an opportunity for those fleeing oppression. And over the past year, we have welcomed the future unashamed, unafraid, and with confidence. Yes, Miami has moved in a new direction, and that direction is forward.
