In an abundance of caution and concern for the health and welfare of the community, the sixth annual Superintendent’s 5K Challenge will be a completely virtual race this year.
Participants may run their distance anywhere at any time between Mar. 6 and Mar. 13. They must complete the event and track their progress with the RaceJoy app on a mobile device.
Hosted by The Foundation for New Education Initiatives (FNEI), the annual Race for Education event benefits local public schools. All Miami-Dade public schools are encouraged to create teams and maximize participation. FNEI will donate a portion of the proceeds to participating schools based on their number of registered participants. All proceeds raised by administrative offices and solo runners will fund District initiatives such as The Parent Academy, Cultural Passport, Project UP-START, paid student summer internships, and the purchase of mobile electronic devices with Internet access for students.
Participants can register online at www.giveourstudentstheworld.org. Registration must be completed by 11:59 p.m. EST on Thursday, Mar. 4.
Adults may register as a Runner/Walker with a $30 plus $2.74 registration fee. Students have two distances to choose from: 5K or a one mile run. Registration for each student option is $10 plus $1.58 registration fee. Participants have the option of registering as an individual or joining an existing team.
T-shirts and medals will be provided for all registered participants. For more information, contact Ann de las Pozas, M-DCPS Foundation for New Education Initiatives at adelaspozas@giveourstudentstheworld.org or 305-995-7317.
