On February 25, 2021, from 5 to 6 pm, Lake Forest Elementary School celebrated Black History Month with an exciting Carousel of African American Musicians event. The Carousel was held in the parking lot of the school and featured displays covering decades of African American musicians.
Prior to the event, students spent time researching, listening to, and dancing to an incredible array of African American musical talent. They also completed art activities that showcased the talents of their respective artists, and as a class, under the direction of their teacher and Media Specialist, students helped to compose a summary of their artists’ life and their contributions to the music industry and to society.
Visitors to the Carousel stayed in their cars while driving through the display lined with student artwork and projects. Each car received a summary of over 25 musicians including Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Bob Marley, Beyoncé, and Broward County’s own Black Violin! It was a wonderful evening of musical celebration!
