MDC Lady Sharks Volleyball Team

Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Lady Sharks volleyball team has done it again.

After defeating Florida Southwestern State College in three straight sets recently, the Lady Sharks won the state championship at the 2021 FCSAA State Volleyball Tournament. The team has 47 state wins and 11 national titles.

With this victory, the Lady Sharks advanced to the NJCAA D1 Southeast District Volleyball Tournament on Apr. 1, and then hopefully on to the NJCAA National Championship on Apr. 15-17 in West Plains, MO.

Under the leadership of Coach Kiko Benoit, the Lady Sharks finished their last season third in the nation in 2019. Their 2020 season was moved to 2021 due to the pandemic. They finished second in the nation in 2018 and were back-to-back NJCAA National Champions in 2017 and 2016.

MDC’s Department of Athletics prides itself in the sponsorship of academic development and the promotion of sports. MDC teams have earned a total of 35 NJCAA national titles, including 15 in women’s sports. Its student athletes have succeeded everywhere from the professional playing field to the board room. Many MDC sports alumni are members of the halls of fame in their respective collegiate and professional sports. Others are leaders in business and industry.
