At its regular monthly meeting, the Miami-Dade School Board awarded four construction contracts to complete General Obligation Bond (GOB) projects valued at approximately $22.5 million. The projects will be undertaken at four elementary schools.
Voters overwhelmingly approved the GOB in 2012 to renovate, remodel and replace schools; expand student capacity; enhance safety; and provide technology upgrades. The following are details of the projects:
Miami Beach South Pointe Elementary – Florida Lemark Corporation was awarded the construction contract for the renovation/addition project at Miami Beach South Pointe Elementary. Built in 1991, the existing school has two permanent buildings and permanent capacity of 452 student stations.
Upon completion, South Pointe will have a new one-story classroom building and 144 additional student stations. The project also includes fire alarm system replacement, HVAC upgrades, new ADA-compliant restrooms and drinking fountains, new flooring, and exterior painting.
Total project allocation – $6.2 million Completion – August 2022
Total sub-consultant Small/ Micro Business Enterprise (S/MBE) participation: 23.57%
Total sub-consultant Minority/Women Business Enterprise (M/WBE) participation: 4.50%
Miami Shores Elementary – Thornton Construction Company, Inc. was awarded the construction contract for the Bond-funded renovations and classroom addition project at Miami Shores Elementary.
Built in 1929 on a 4.8-acre parcel of land, the school currently has seven permanent buildings with 714 student stations. After completion of the project, the school will have a new five-classroom building addition with 116 additional student stations. The scope of work includes a new PE shelter, roof replacement of the media center, new Energy Management System, replacement of the drinking fountains and restrooms renovation, new park spaces and select interior paint.

Total sub-consultant M/WBE participation: 12.50%
North Glade Elementary – Veitia Padron, Inc. (VPI) was awarded the construction contract for the bond-funded PE shelter and renovations project at North Glade Elementary. Built in 1958, with additions constructed afterwards, North Glade is comprised of 12 permanent buildings situated on an approximately 11-acre parcel of land. The facility has a permanent capacity of 508 student stations.
The project includes a new PE shelter, basketball court upgrades, replacing drinking fountains with new ADA-compliant water coolers, replacing flooring in the media center, and miscellaneous upgrades throughout the campus.

Total sub-consultant S/MBE participation: 15.51%
Total sub-consultant M/WBE participation: 16.94%
North Hialeah Elementary – M.A.C. Construction, Inc. was awarded the construction contract for the bond-funded renovations project at North Hialeah Elementary. Built in 1949, the school currently has nine permanent buildings with 688 student stations. The campus will have a total of 778 student stations after the cafetorium is converted into five new classrooms including restrooms and auxiliary spaces.
Additional work includes replacing the fire system throughout the facility, selective interior renovations on flooring, ceiling, lighting, and painting, and installing new ADA-compliant water coolers throughout the facility.
