Coral Gables Woman’s Club’s Gringo Bingo at Clutch Burger on June 1 was a major success raising more than $2,400 in just a few hours. The money will be disbursed 50/50 to the National Areata Alopecia Foundation and programs of the CGWC.
Thanks to new sponsor Lux Lifestyle Chiropractic/ Dr. Brittany Holliday and ongoing sponsors 1st Empire Elite Financial and EZ Title Services, this event broke records for revenue and attendance. Of course, the event would never happen without Clutch Burger owner Steven Bradley whose antics always entertain along with the music of DJ Germain.
Next event already has 19 RSVP’s and it is not until July 6. Space is limited, so, signing up early is important. To RSVP, send email to gloria@cnews.net.
Among the many prizes at Gringo Bingo was a Meet and Greet with executive chef Jared Case at The Gramercy, the American Brasserie that took over the former Tarpon Bend space on Miracle Mile. CGWC Secretary Carmen Suarez was quick to donate to the cause to take advantage of this opportunity inviting some friends to join in the experience at The Gramercy. Clutch Burger’s Steven Bradley escorted Suarez and her friends from Clutch Burger to the Meet and Greet giving the girls a tour of restaurants including a look at the new rooftop restaurant opening soon on Giralda. More on that soon.
The same evening, The Gramercy also welcomed a joint in-person mixer of judges, lawyers and more sponsored by the Rotary Club of Coral Gables (RCCG), Coral Gables Bar and Dade County Bar associations. Among the many faces in the crowd were RCCG’s past presidents Frank Sexton and Walter Alvarez; Bruce Bounds; Jefferson Knight, and RCCG president Kelly Garces, who will turn over the president’s gavel to president-elect Nicolaus Eterovic on July 3 at the club’s annual Independence Day picnic.
The Greater Miami Festivals & Events Association (GMFEA) Conference and Exhibition took place at The Fair’s Expo Center on June 17. After a one year hiatus, GMFEA’s Conference producer Debbie Magenheimer reported a record number of booths and participation by exhibitors and people in the business of event management, production and entertainment.
It was a day to learn from experts in the field and network with others in the industry that has such a great impact on our South Florida community.
It was amazing to see people from this industry who, while being among those most directly impacted by the shutdown, survived and emerged with such gusto. GMFEA executive director Roberta DiPietro acknowledged major donors who made this all possible: Miami-Dade County, Fair Expo Center, Reflections Productions, Mike Sipe Entertainment, Stage Coast, Big Mouth Girlz, Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, and Miami’s Community Newspapers.
As kids start getting out of school, some teachers go the extra mile. Third grade teacher Kate Swain is no exception. After teaching her class online all year, Kate thought the students deserved a treat and prepared a gift bag that included a certificate for a milkshake at a local favorite eatery, Burger Bob’s on the Granada Golf Course. Several third graders from Coral Gables Prep Academy already have collected their shakes and some even got a chance to take a photo with Burger Bob’s Bob Maguire. Finally, a shout out to Dr. Carter of Dr. Marvin Dunn Academy of Community Education who recently was awarded the Florida Tax Watch Principal of Year Award while one of her seniors also was awarded a two- year scholarship. Local Gables residents Lynn Bauer and Dr. Hal Wanless are big fans of Dr. Carter and big time supporters of that special school.
