We’re off to see The Wizard of Oz as Miami Children’s Museum hosts the return of the iconic licensed traveling educational exhibit based on the beloved movie classic, with its always important messages of being tolerant of differences, acceptance, friendship and love.
The Wizard of Oz educational exhibit has returned for a limited time through Sept. 12. Visit the museum to play, learn, imagine and create along the yellow brick road.
Created by Miami Children’s Museum and licensed by Warner Bros. Consumer Products, The Wizard of Oz educational exhibit is a journey of self-discovery for the whole family that takes children and families over the rainbow to experience the magic of the beloved film.
Visitors of all ages are invited to come along with Dorothy and Toto on a multi-sensory, cross-disciplinary exploration of the Land of Oz; discover personal strengths and gifts using literacy, music and performing arts, values and strengths, light and science, physical challenges, personal reflection and decision-making.
Along the way, everyone will experience the adventures of Dorothy and her friends as they find their way back to true happiness. Guests travel from the Gale Farm to the colorful Land of Oz, where they explore Munchkinland, The Crossroads, The Witch’s Castle and The Emerald City before heading back over the rainbow to Miami, because, of course, “There’s no place like home.”
Visit the Wagon of Professor Marvel and create your own tornado in Dorothy’s bedroom.
Explore Munchkin houses and meet Dorothy and her friends, Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion and Tin Man. Enter The Emerald City and create a “Horse of a Different Color,” play at the kaleidoscope and prism stations, but “pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.” Climb the mountain to the Castle of the Wicked Witch of the West to capture her broom.
Finally, click your heels three times while reciting “There’s no place like home,” as you depart the Land of Oz.
Elements of the movie available only in this licensed exhibit include the Ruby Slippers, the characters everyone knows and loves from the film, and classic movie moments.
“We are thrilled that children and families can come visit the museum every day to experience our interactive exhibits and programs,” said Deborah Spiegelman, CEO and executive director of the museum. “And bringing back our popular The Wizard of Oz educational exhibit just adds to the excitement. We are so looking forward to safely providing a quality museum experience for children to play, learn, imagine and create every day of the week.”
Entrance to The Wizard of Oz educational exhibit is included in each regular admission to the museum. Admission is $22 for adults and children, $15 for Florida residents, free for children under 1 year and admission for members is complimentary. Admission to the museum will be offered in two-hour play sessions (10 a.m.-noon, 1-3 p.m. and 4-6 p.m.), and advance ticket purchase is required.
After each session team members clean and sanitize the facility and swap out props for the next group. Temperatures will be taken prior to entering the building and masks will be required at all times for adults and children ages 2 and older.
