The South Florida Youth Symphony (SFYS), one of the nation’s premier youth music organizations, is seeking youngsters, ages 3-23, to join the prestigious group in its 57th season.

“This is an excellent opportunity for musically inclined children to learn from our staff of world-class teachers, improve their skills and become part of the South Florida Youth Symphony,” said Marjorie Hahn, the Youth Symphony’s executive and music director. “In addition, the musical training they will receive as a member of the Youth Symphony can lead to college scholarships.”

The SFYS recently won a prestigious Emmy Award and has performed nationally (three times at Carnegie Hall in New York) and internationally, including capturing the Gold Medal in the famed Prague Young Bohemia Music Festival.

The South Florida Youth Symphony is comprised of musicians from throughout Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Practices are conducted on Sunday afternoons at the Pawley Creative Arts Center, Building 5000, at the Miami-Dade College North Campus, 11380 NW 27 Ave.

Students from beginner to advanced are encouraged to apply. Membership fee for a full year through May is $600 (with additional siblings at $525).

“No student is ever turned away because of financial concerns,” said Hahn, whose

stepfather, Carmen Nappo, founded the organization more than 56 years ago. “Scholarships are something we’re very proud of.”

For more information and/or to arrange an audition, contact the South Florida Youth Symphony via email at MakeMusic@sfys.net or by phone at 305-238-2729.
