Pinecrest Gardens progress report: Upper Garden Project is coming to life

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

For months we have been speaking about our exciting new Upper Garden Project that will allow for the creation of a new, all-inclusive playground featuring larger than life whimsical animals and built on industry leading poured in place, environmentally friendly ground cover.

There will be new ADA accessible restrooms; modern, accessible picnic areas; a spectacular new petting zoo featuring areas where people of all abilities can engage with the animals while learning about their habits and habitats and a mountain made from boulders where goats can climb to its summit; lighting and landscaping upgrades; and new, wheelchair friendly nature trails.

There will also be the creation of a new Sensory and Learning Garden that will feature hands-on gardening tools designed for individuals of all abilities. Tools for arthritic hands, multi-level planters for individuals who are confined to wheelchairs, as well as a full range of sensory features for children and adults on the autism spectrum.

The last component of this new area will be a stand-alone building we call the Inspiration Center, adjacent to the Sensory and Learning Garden. This will provide much needed climate control for children on the autism spectrum who are sensitive to temperature extremes, a dedicated classroom and rehearsal hall that will enhance our educational and cultural programing.

Construction is well underway and we thought we would give you all a sneak peek of what is happening behind the green covered construction fence on the Pinecrest Gardens Property. Earmarked for an opening at the beginning of 2022, the Upper Garden Project will be accessible to children and adults of all abilities who want to visit, enjoy, laugh, learn and play.
