As the Junior Orange Bowl season kicks into gear, JOBC Past President Don Slesnick III has agreed to step in as Interim Executive Director. As Don has served in many roles as Parade Chair and President, the festival is in good hands with him and their 2021-22 President Samantha Jones at the helm.
Both Sam and Don were on hand as the Junior Orange Bowl held its first in person social gathering at Bay 13 on August 25 with another one scheduled for September 22 with the location to be announced. These socials serve to recruit new volunteers and act as a reunion of sorts for many including Past President Dr. Richard Souviron (whose son Grant is President -Elect), Past President and Basketball Chair Chuck Little, Past President Frandley DeFilie, and Past President Steven Gonzalez. Another face on the scene was long time member Hank Langston who founded the JOBC Gymnastics Tournament years ago, held many offices over the years and founded the JOBC’s Scholar Athlete Program, an ongoing program that celebrates academic excellence in sports.

The JOBC announced the date, December 12, 2021, for the Annual Jr. Orange Bowl Parade.
The Parade took a hiatus in 2020, but promises to make a strong come back this year. It will also be a big year for the JOBC Tennis Committee with the tournament celebrating its 60th Anniversary. Some preliminary fun is set on November 20th, with Glow in the Dark Tennis at The Biltmore Wm Kerdyk Tennis Center Tennis Courts. More on all those events in future issues.
In other upcoming events and still following Covid protocols, Paws4You presents its Annual Howl-O-Ween, bringing some Halloween fun to Pinecrest Gardens on October 30, from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Dog lovers are invited to an afternoon featuring four-legged ghouls and their scary human companions celebrating Howl-O-Ween with tricks and treats, a costume contest, a Doggie Fun Zone Agility course, food, drinks, live entertainment, a spooky Kids’ Zone and a pumpkin patch. The admission is $8 per person online or $10 at the gate. Children under two are free.

The Woman’s Club of Coconut Grove (WCCG) will host a cocktail-style art party on October 9 from 5:30-9:00 .m. at the clubhouse, 2985 South Bayshore Drive. Guests will enjoy art, cocktails, music, food, and good company! This is a group show featuring 17 local artists and the artwork is for sale. Our music group for the evening is the Daddy Wags, a local duo from Coconut Grove, FL featuring Daddy Wags himself (Eric Wagner), vocals and guitar, and Anthony Dick on double bass. There will be complimentary appetizers and a cash bar.

Father Israel Mago is the Pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Doral, now celebrating its 20th anniversary. Watch the show to learn about the journey this congragation experienced as they grew from a small group meeting in school cafeterias to becoming one of the largest churches in South Florida with approximately with 9,000 families.
