Qualifying Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) customers who are behind on their WASD bills can apply for utility assistance from OUR Florida.
While the moratorium on disconnections of water service due to non-payment remains in place, the department still encourages you to pay what you can, when you can to avoid accumulating multiple bill balances.
OUR Florida is a program overseen by the Florida Department of Children and Families. Funding is provided by the federal Emergency Rental Assistance Program. The program provides assistance for past due rental or utility bill balances and for up to three months of future payments not to exceed 15 months of total assistance.
Some qualifications to receive assistance include:
• Rent your home, apartment or other residential dwelling in Florida;
• Earn an income at or below 80 percent of the area’s median income;
• Have qualified for unemployment, experienced a loss of income, incurred significant costs or faced financial hardships due to thee COVID-19 Public Health Emergency, or
• Are at risk of losing your home, experiencing housing instability or are living in unsafe or unhealthy conditions.
To date, WASD has received approximately $133,000 in payments from OUR Florida on behalf of 136 account holders.
