Mario Kreutzberger, or as the world knows him, Don Francisco was the host of television’s longest running variety show, Sabado Gigante. For 53 years, Don Francisco charmed his audience with everything from hilarious parodies to intriguing interviews. The Chilean television host made his career with Telemundo and has since reached Spanish audiences the world over. Here, he joins Dr. Martha Perez, Miami-Dade County School Board Member for District 8 and host of the show Excellence in Education with Miami’s Community Newspapers to discuss his newest book, A Desire to Live on Facebook Live. The memoir of Don Francisco’s life is his fourth published book and Dr. Perez was more than happy to recommend the story to both young and old audiences.
Don Francisco went into more detail with Dr. Perez and discussed moments of his life that served as important benchmarks in his career, including how he got his start in television. He was initially fired from his position for what the station claimed was his lack of professionalism, but popular demand earned him a return to his position and a fast track to prime time coverage.
Intrigued by his secret to success, Dr. Perez dove into questions about his blueprint for television entertainment to which he answered with one idea, “the Soup.” Comedy, news, and interviews were all included in this soup that Don Francisco believed made for a compelling show. And compelling he was in both his time with Telemundo and with Dr. Martha Perez on Excellence in Education.
