Miami-Dade County launched its upgraded Open Data Hub, an important step forward for public data, transparency, and community engagement.

The enhanced portal, part of Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava’s commitment to open data and transparency, was a collaborative effort between the Mayor’s Office, Information Technology Department (ITD), and Communications and Customer Experience Department (CCED).

Open datasets allow the county to collaborate with the community, find new ways to measure services, and create applications that inform decision-making. The portal will work to streamline how the county shares data with private and public partners, including higher education institutions and local municipalities.

“As commissioner and now as mayor, I’ve been committed to making county government more transparent, accountable, and collaborative,” Mayor Levine Cava said. “Making our data more open and accessible to the public and to our partners in the community is a top priority.”

This Open Data Hub is a platform for more than 500 open datasets, many of them with accompanying application programming interfaces (APIs) for internal and external applications and data analysis. Users can explore, download, visualize, embed, and develop tools using these datasets. The developer community and data consumers will find valuable datasets and resources for service areas like transportation, education, and the environment.

“If you can imagine it, the Data Hub will make it possible,” said Margaret Brisban, Miami-Dade County’s chief information officer and Information Technology director. “As we continue full speed ahead with our countywide digital transformation, improving access to our data is key to expanding collaboration and interaction with our customers. I want to thank the county’s IT team for working closely with our community and business partners to expand further what our transparency platform offers.”

The Open Data Hub, built using ESRI’s ArcGIS technology, is frequently updated with new datasets, APIs and is mobile device friendly. It also has available information about how to access datasets and a support form for users to submit questions or receive technical support.
