The annual East Ridge at Cutler Bay Holiday Bazaar will be held on Saturday, December 4 from 9 a.m. to noon and is open to the public.

East Ridge “Village Crafters,” residents who participate in the crafting club and ceramics class, have worked all year on the merchandise being sold at the bazaar. Many of the items have a holiday theme, including throw pillows, Christmas ornaments and wreaths, placemats, beaded jewelry and more. Created with seniors in mind by seniors, there are perfect gifts for a favorite relative or friend.

Plants will be for sale from the East Ridge nursery and fine gifts, including paintings and framed prints from the community’s Thrift Shop. There will also be a raffle with items generously donated by local businesses.

Proceeds from the sale benefit East Ridge and there’s no charge to attend.

“The Holiday Bazaar is one of our most successful fundraising efforts. We enjoy having this opportunity to showcase our craft projects and the amazing talents of our residents,” said Fran Plummer, the event organizer.

Studies find that arts and crafts and pursuing other creative projects benefit the mind, spirit and body.  Participating in a craft and art program can help alleviate boredom and keeps seniors’ minds busy. It’s a pleasurable way to spend time and offers a great way for people to socialize. Furthermore, arts and crafts help with hand-eye coordination, cognitive abilities, and concentration.

“Many of us have discovered crafting since moving to East Ridge and now have time to pursue new hobbies since we don’t have to worry about cooking or cleaning,” she said. “We are exploring our creative side now that we have the time and a place to do so.”

The Lifestyle Center at East Ridge offers a large crafting studio and many residents gather there to work on projects but also work from their residences.

East Ridge is located at 19301 SW 87th Avenue in Cutler Bay.  To learn more about the life plan community or to schedule a personal tour, please call (305) 256-3564 or visit www.EastRidgeatCutlerBay.com.
