Jingle Bells Run returns and holiday parties abound

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Get out your holiday costumes for a fun morning on December 19, 2021, 8 a.m., at Tropical Park to support the Arthritis Foundation’s Jingle Bells Run. If you have never participated, you are in for a treat with crazy costumes including elves, Santas and just colorful folks making this run one of my favorites.  The GFWC Coral Gables Woman’s Club team raised lots of money at their December 7  Gringo Bingo at Clutch Burger  featuring Steven Bradley as emcee and music donated by DJ Germain.  Thanks to EZ Title Services and 1st Empire Elite Financial for their sponsorship.

The Jr. Orange Bowl is in full swing.  With the fabulous parade held December 12 behind them, they turn their attention to the   60th Jr. Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship, presented by Badia.  That event began with  Qualifying Check-in/Registration at the University of Miami on  December 11th.   Diego Schwartzman serves as the 2021 Honorary Chair for this year’s tournament that is being held at 3 venues: Crandon, Salvadore and Biltmore Tennis Centers with the finals on December 21 at  Salvadore and Biltmore Tennis Centers.  Kudos to  Co-chairs Barbara Waters and Abby Dresnick, along with Tournament Coordinator Cathy Nordlund and Tournament Director Jodi Steinbauer, who promise this will be another memorable event where tennis fans can see future tennis stars in the making. For more information on this and other events coming up soon, visit www.jrorangebowl.org.

Merrick Festival Caroling winners were announced on December 7 at the final performances for this annual event with award winners doing a short program for a very appreciative crowd.  Not only does this event provide an amazing showcase our talented school choirs from all over the county but it also provided the Coral Gables High School’s  Interact Club with a great way to raise funds selling hot chocolate, cookies and more  every night of the shows. Interact member  Ana Maestre was also there selling candles for her Silver Knight project to benefit a women’s program for Chapman Partnership.

Coral Gables Rotarians are looking for chefs and sponsors for the club’s 2022 Chili Cook Off.  The date has been postponed twice because if Covid concerns but is now set for February 27, Sunday.  Cash prizes are awarded and proceeds benefit the many charities supported by Rotary Club of Coral Gables.  For information, visit www.chilichillin.com.

Look for interviews on Cnews.net with amazing people making a difference in our community  on Gloria’s Gab LIVE Monday mornings at 10 a.m.  On December 6,  my guest was Patty Vila, a long time friend who recently took started working for My Psychiatrist.  Patty and I shared information on numerous upcoming events you won’t want to miss.   To see that show, visit Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Communitynewspapers/videos/632463724598272

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas!
