The 21st annual Mayor’s Ball will be hosted for the first time by Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava.
After a two year hiatus brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, the event is set to raise more than $1 million to benefit United Way Miami and its efforts to build a stronger Miami-Dade through education, financial stability and health.
Miami-Dade’s most influential leaders in business, government and philanthropy will gather in the spirit of community and goodwill to celebrate the community’s resilience and honor our heroes. The event will take place at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, on Apr. 29.
As Miami-Dade County’s first woman mayor and first honorary chair of the ball, Mayor Levine Cava brings a 40-year community leadership lens as a relentless advocate for South Florida families and now a countywide administration lens focused on building a stronger, more inclusive and resilient Miami-Dade — a mission that mirrors that of United Way Miami.
Throughout the past 97 years, thanks to the support of generous donors like those attending the Mayor’s Ball, United Way Miami has empowered tens of thousands of community residents by providing programs and services aimed to help them build thriving and equitable lives with access to quality education, proper medical care and the tools needed to become financially secure.
As one of the largest and most effective human services organizations, United Way Miami actively supports more than 100 programs across 60 local agencies focused on empowering families throughout Miami-Dade’s most vulnerable communities, along with other important initiatives. Since 1998, Miami-Dade County and United Way Miami have collaborated on this event, joining forces to build a resilient and equitable community.
“It is an honor to be hosting the Mayor’s Ball for the first time,” Mayor Levine Cava said.
“On this one night, leaders from different sectors throughout our county will come together to celebrate our city’s resilience and honor our heroes by giving back to our community through the work of United Way Miami, an organization that has proven its commitment to improving the lives of our residents.”
The fundraising host committee is being co-chaired by Alex Heckler and Michael Llorente of LSN Partners, José Pepe Badia of Badia Spices, Jorge Perez of Related Group, Jose Felix Diaz and Courtney Whitney of Ballard Partners, David Martin of Terra Group and Christian Ulvert of EDGE Communications.
Many community and business leaders have already signed up as host committee members, including Moishe Mana, Tom and Patrick Murphy, Freddy Balsera, Jose Mas, Jacqui Carmona, Marlie and Jorge Luis Lopez, Miguel Diaz de la Portilla, Lucia Raiford, Armando Codina, Gilberto Neves, Manny Medina, Jim Ansin, Kenneth O’Keefe and Carlos Andrade.
“After a two-year hiatus, we are thrilled to be coming together once again for the annual Mayor’s Ball,” said Joe Zubi, president and CEO of United Way Miami.
“We are honored to have Mayor Levine Cava lead the way at this year’s event alongside our incredible volunteer host committee and supporters who share in our mission to help children, families and older adults thrive within our community,” Zubi continued.
