Namath Backs Up His Guarantee

January 12, 1969: On this day 52 years ago, the New York Jets upset the Baltimore Colts 16-7 to win Super Bowl III. Pictured below: Jets quarterback Joe Namath walks off the field. During the week of the game Namath received an award from the Miami Touchdown Club. When he accepted the award, a heckler in the crowd screamed at Namath and told him the Jets had no chance against the heavily favored Colts. In his closing remarks, Namath said the Jets would win the game “I guarantee it”.
