The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce recently honored State Rep. Demi Busatta Cabrera as the 2022 Chamber Legislative Champion for her work as the House sponsor for a bill titled Statewide Flooding and Sea Level Rise Resilience, which established a statewide program to address flooding and sea-level rise. The bill was signed into law by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
The Chamber Legislative Champion Award is an annual honor recognizing one member of the Florida Legislature who has made a significant, positive impact on Miami’s business community. The chamber presented the award to Rep. Demi Busatta Cabrera as part of a three-day Tallahassee fly-in.
“Rep. Demi Busatta Cabrera has been key to our state government’s focus on one of the most important issues to businesses — sea level rise,” said Alfred Sanchez, president and CEO of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.
“Having a comprehensive statewide plan and annual, dedicated funding was a significant accomplishment that will certainly open the door to creative, innovative solutions and business opportunities. It’s a win-win, and Rep. Demi Busatta Cabrera got it across the goal line,” he added.
“Flood and sea-level rise mitigation have long been priorities of our chamber,” said Spencer Pylant, vice president of government affairs for the Greater Miami Chamber. “As more businesses, their employees and families move to Miami, it’s critical to invest long-term in a more-resilient infrastructure. Due to the passage of legislation and her consistent support of legislative priorities that are pro-business, the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce is proud to honor Rep. Demi Busatta Cabrera as our 2022 Chamber Legislative Champion.”
In 2020, the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce instituted the Chamber Legislative Champion Award to honor a member of the Florida Legislature who has made a significant positive impact on Miami’s business community. Rep. Vance Aloupis was the chamber’s first honoree in 2020 for his focus on education and workforce development, specifically district cost differential formula reform. Last year, the Chamber honored Rep. Nicholas X. Duran for sponsoring the bipartisan “Keep Our Graduates Working Act.” Busatta Cabrera is the third state lawmaker to receive this prestigious award.
