What do you get when you mix military displays, live music, and a
K-9 show? You get the City of Homestead’s ninth annual Military Appreciation Day.

Harris Field was transformed as a hub for all things armed forces as military and civilians came together for a day of food, drinks, music, and performances. The community event was a chance to celebrate while viewing specialized military vehicles and interactive displays.

Those in attendance enjoyed live music and performances, a K-9 demonstration by the Homestead Police Department, and a children’s area with games and activities like decorating greeting cards to send to the military heroes overseas.  Opening ceremonies featured Homestead mayor and council, as well as local military personnel.

Military Appreciation Day is part of Military Appreciation Month in which all Homestead residents are encouraged to honor our military. The military presence in Homestead dates back to World War I and World War II when the Homestead Air Field Base was built in 1942. Ever since, Homestead and the military have supported each other to make this a great community for all.

The event is a community effort organized by the City of Homestead in partnership with the Homestead Reserve Air Base, the Military Affairs Council, Homestead Police, Best Studio Inn, Seminole Theatre, and Homestead Main Street.  For more information, visit www.cityofhomestead.com/military or call 305-224-4570.
