Hello Pinecrest. I am happy to report that the Village has experienced a year of wins. We are on schedule to complete the county’s potable water infrastructure. The Village received an unprecedented amount of State and Federal funding to-date. And we are experiencing the lowest crime rate in Pinecrest history.
Finding a solution to how to fund the county’s potable water infrastructure was a sticky topic and became a perennial matter for prior councils. The county would not fund the completion of its infrastructure, residents voted not to pay for the completion, and others just did not want to connect. It was a complex issue, but we consistently and patiently sought solutions.
Fast-forward to today and the project is one-third complete and is scheduled to be done by January of 2023. Some 700+ residents will have access to potable drinking water and fire hydrants. Finally.
The cost of the project is $11M. The Village helped fund the infrastructure with $7M from the American Care Act and the county contributed $500K. The balance of the project will be paid by the benefitting property owners with a special assessment of approximately $358 per year for 25 years. Property owners will have up to ten years to connect to the system.
We are moving in an excellent direction. For more information about the water project, visit www.pinecrest-fl.gov/water.
This has been a banner year in funding for the Village. In fact, the amount of funding the Village received this year is more than all years, cumulatively. This year, the Village has received the following:
● $500K State of Florida for stormwater projects
● $500K State of Florida for historical grant to benefit Pinecrest Gardens
● $10K State of Florida Pinecrest Gardens Interpretative Signs from Florida Humanities
● $606K Omnibus Bill Federal Grant
● $8.1M American Rescue Act which can be used for very specific matters including water projects
● $40K National Endowment for the Arts grant for performing arts mentorship to include the She Jazz Project and GenNext Jam
● $150K State of Florida Department of Cultural Affairs Culture Builds Florida grant
for cultural programming and marketing for Pinecrest Gardens
● $25K Florida Department of Environmental Protection for lake remediation at Pinecrest Gardens and Veterans Wayside Park
● $47K US Department of Justice to initiate a body camera program
● $195K Florida Department Environmental Protection for a vulnerability assessment
Additionally, the Village benefited from the Florida Power & Light pilot program which is comprised of undergrounding 50 miles of powerlines by the end of 2022.
More good news… The Village is experiencing the lowest crime rate in history. Part 1 Crimes that include burglaries, car theft and aggravated assault are down by 66 percent since incorporation and are lower than ever.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Police Department for 25 years of excellence and invite members of the community to a special celebratory event on Saturday, June 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Evelyn Greer Park, 8200 SW 124 Street.
