Since first being elected to Congressional House District 26, Carlos A. Gimenez has proven time and time again that he is truly looking out for the people of Monroe County and the southwest portion of Miami-Dade County.

First elected to Congress in 2020, he serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, the Homeland Security committee, and the Science, Space, and Technology Committee.

We have long appreciated what Mayor Gimenez has done for the people of South Florida, first as firefighter, a trusted City Manager for Miami, as a County Commissioner, and then ultimately as Mayor of Miami-Dade County in 2011.

Gimenez understands that small businesses are the backbone of our economy and the necessity of lowering our taxes and cutting burdensome regulations. Under his leadership as mayor, Gimenez provided the largest tax cut in the history of Miami-Dade County. He also helped guide Miami-Dade to less than 2 percent unemployment rate – an all-time record.

We also are heartened by his view that natural resources must be developed in a way that are environmentally conscious and sustainable. We strongly agree with his opposition to offshore drilling, especially off the coast of Florida, and his continued advocacy for policies that invest in sustainable infrastructure and encourages more use of public transportation.

For these reasons and more, we at Community Newspapers endorse Congressman Carlos Gimenez for reelection to Congressional District 26.
