Over the summer, Miami Christian School’s former athletes are making great gains in the world of sports. In. fact, some recents graduates have moved on to Major League Baseball play. Henry Martinez was drafted and will be playing for the San Diego Padres, while Bryant Zayas signed as a free agent for the Boston Red Sox. In addition. Jose Izarra, Class of 2019, was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
In other alumni news, J J Barea, Class of 2002, retired from the Dallas Mavericks this summer. After graduating from Miami Christian, he went to Northwestern and then played 14 years in the NBA, 11 with the Dallas Mavericks and 3 with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Fun fact, while at the Mavericks he played alongside Dirk Nowitzki and Luka Doncic.
In other basketball news, Martin Garza, who was a senior in the Class of 2022, received a full scholarship to begin playing this Fall at Alderson Broaddus University.
