Capt. Larry Corbin

Captain Larry Corbin, a 35-year veteran of the South Miami Police Department (SMPD), has been selected as the Outstanding Command Officer for 2022 by the Florida Police Chiefs Association, the third largest state police chief’s association in the United States.

The annual award recognizes those law enforcement commanders who demonstrate the highest level of excellence in leadership, service and dedication to the betterment of the police department and the community it serves.

“It’s nice to be recognized and appreciated,” Capt. Corbin said several days after the award presentation in Palm Beach Gardens on Aug. 10. “I have always tried to do the right thing and an award like this is a great way to end my career at the South Miami Police Department.”

Capt. Corbin is a familiar face to South Miami residents and business owners, always approachable by those who have questions or simply want to chat. He oversees the police department’s operations and investigative divisions.

“Larry is the heart and soul of the South Miami Police Department and receiving this award is well-deserved. It’s a very big honor for him, the department and our community,” said Police Chief René Landa. “He exemplifies commitment to our organization, whether it’s going to in-progress calls to make sure our officers are safe, to grilling hamburgers and hotdogs for our team, he does it all.”
