Volunteer/service and business organizations can bring joy in unexpected ways. From meeting new friends to working on charitable projects together, people tie lifelong bonds. Rotary, Kiwanis, and the General Federation of Women’s Clubs are a testament as individuals serve the community and build leadership skills.
Speaking of which, collaborations are becoming more and more common. Recently, GFWC Coral Gables Woman’s Club (CGWC) and the Rotary Club of Coral Gables (RCCG) joined forces to raise funds for their respective charities with their first monthly Game Night hosted by Bay 13 in Coral Gables. Clutch Burger owner, Steven Bradley, who emceed this first event has agreed to continue volunteering his time and talent much like he does for CGWC’s monthly Gringo Bingo. Thanks to SouthState Bank and Eli Jimenez, this pilot Game Night on Aug. 23, raised more than $1,300 for charity. It was such a success, plans are to hold these on the fourth Tuesday of each month.
Speaking of Gringo Bingo, the next one is set for Sept. 6, 7-9 p.m., at Clutch Burger, with proceeds being shared with the National Areata Alopecia Foundation (NAAF). Dierdre Nero was a guest on Gloria’s Gab LIVE on Aug.17 to discuss NAAF and the upcoming Gringo Bingo for which her Nero Immigration Law Firm is one of the sponsors along with attorney Jerome Kavulich.
Since this fun bingo party started in 2019, CGWC has worked with immigration attorney Nero every fall to support her efforts in raising awareness and funds for NAAF. Steven Bradley is the monthly emcee while celebrity DJ Germain provides music to make the party complete.
Next month’s party at Clutch Burger will be Tuesday, Oct. 11, with proceeds being shared with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Tickets are $30 per person and include 12 games and a big coverall with great prizes and lots of fun. To RSVP send email to gloria@cnews.net.

Philanthropists Lynn Bauer and Dr. Hal Wanless once again hosted a breakfast for the teachers at which time they turned in their wish lists and principal Deborah Carter was presented with the CGWC check as well as a donation from retired Coral Gables High teacher Joan Reitsma.
On the cultural front, Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre brings us another great show, the world premiere of Now and Then by Sean Grennan whom you may recall wrote Making God Laugh, The Tin Woman, and Married Alive. Now and Then is an inspiring story of love and life as a young aspiring pianist who is working as a bartender.
