For her first two years at Palmer Trinity School, senior Hannah Grene served as a football team manager.
“We are basically part of the team,” she says. “We were there for all the games. We were there for practices. We would provide them with water and anything they might need.”
If the players were injured, Grene and her fellow team managers would tape ankles or deal with scrapes and cuts.
She became a team manager because she had a good relationship with the team sports trainer.
“I have always been into football,” she says. “I’ve always enjoyed the sport, so helping the team was exciting to me.”
Grene is an athlete herself, playing lacrosse and golf.
“I’ve been playing competitively since I was five,” she says. “I’ve been on the team since seventh grade.”
The Palmer Trinity girls’ team won districts the last three years, receiving bids to go to the state championships.
“We weren’t the top, but we were happy to be there,” she says.
This year, Grene is one of the team captains.
Outside of school, she has played U.S. Kids Golf tournaments. She played for Deering Bay Golf, and has competed in Drive, Chip and Putt events.
Grene has played varsity lacrosse since eighth grade at Palmer Trinity. She also played club lacrosse for Miami Sol. She plans to play lacrosse her senior season, but not club.
Grene is president of Twenty Little Working Girls, a non-profit community service club.
“Each year we do different events and fundraisers,” she says. “I have been a part of it since freshman year, participating on the executive and general board all three years. It’s one of my passions and brings me so much joy to be a part of.”
The money raised by the club is distributed to charities across Miami.
At school, Grene is a member of the Achieve Club, which works with Achieve Miami, an organization that helps elementary school children achieve literacy. On Saturday mornings club members go to a school to read with the Little Buddies, do a writing exercise and then play with the kids.
“I love it,” she says. “I also have recruited my sister and a couple of my friends. We have been able to create connections with the girls.”
This past summer, Grene attended The Peace Ambassador Leadership Summit at Georgetown University. The summit covered leadership and college prep experience.
“We get to live on campus and participate in campus activities,” she says. “It focused on diversity, equity and inclusion, along with taking classes.”
For college, she’s applying to the University of Michigan, University of Georgia, the University of Florida, Florida State University, and George Washington University. She expects to take a pre-law track.
“I really want to work on Capitol Hill,” she says.
She is a member of the Palmer Trinity Model United Nations team.
“I have attended two-three conferences per year,” she says, “I get to represent different countries at different conferences.”
She’s a member of the Social Entrepreneurship Club and she took the Social Entrepreneurship class, and started a business called Doggie Bag.
“We created stress free goody bags, to do our part for the animal community,” she says.
The bags include stress balls, gum, silly bands, and a variety of candy.”
The proceeds go to buying supplies for local shelters.
Grene is a member of the Palace Buddies, a group that visits the elderly at the Palace in in Coral Gables. She is also secretary of the Second Chance club, and the Pre-Law Club.
