Once again power forward John Collins finds himself amidst trade rumors as the trade deadline draws closer. On the season Collins is currently averaging 12 points, 7.4 rebounds on the following shooting splits: 48.9% field goal and 21.3% from deep.
Overall, Collins’ averages over the past three seasons have been on a gradual decline including his usage on the pick & roll. Despite being one of the most efficient roll men in the league last season (67.8% field goal) his touches have experienced a drastic decline from the 2019-20: 5.1 possessions, to this season 2022-23: 1.5 possessions. Collins’ contract makes it quite difficult for teams to trade for as he is set to make over $78.5MM for the next three seasons.
According to Shams Charania, the teams in which have an interest in trading for the uber athletic forward are as follows: Washington Wizards, Brooklyn Nets, Utah Jazz, and the Dallas Mavericks. Another team to possibly look out for is the Miami Heat as they are lacking depth in that power forward slot since P.J. Tucker’s departure leading to a disappointing season thus far. To say the least, whichever team acquires Collins’ will bolster their roster as they would have one of the most versatile players in that position especially if a contender snags him off the market.
