The Pinecrest Police Department, led by Chief Jason Cohen, was created in 1997 and maintains a Gold Standard credential rating by The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). Residents and visitors to the Village of Pinecrest should consider that behind each badge is a human being who cares deeply about the community they have sworn to protect with their lives, if necessary.

We invite you to read on and learn a bit more about two officers who protect and serve as members of the Pinecrest Police Department.

Pinecrest Police Officer Stephanie Marin is a Miami native who became a police officer for all of the right reasons.

“Prior to becoming a police officer while watching the varying interactions between law enforcement and civilians, I felt there was a need to a different approach to policing. I wanted to become a police officer that residents can trust and feel comfortable speaking with about anything he or she might need,” says Officer Marin.

She’s very happy in her role and believes that serving in the Village of Pinecrest offers a unique experience compared to other police departments.

“There is a closeness to it that you will not find in other agencies,” she explains. “I feel that in this department your voice is heard and there is a humanness that you will not get with your typical paramilitary environments.”

On personal time, she enjoys travel, sports and playing video games. She is a graduate of Florida International University and was recognized as the Pinecrest Police Department’s Officer of the Quarter in 2022.

Pinecrest Police Officer Daren Jones calls Miami home and the University of Central Florida his alma mater, where he played college football and earned his degree.

“To be able to serve and protect the community and be a part of something great” is why he joined the “thin blue line.” Reliable, disciplined and courteous is how Officer Jones is described by those who know him well.

“What I love most about being a police officer is the variety in job duties and the unknown when it comes to day to day work,” he says. “When I come to work I never know what’s in store for me or what kind of calls I’ll be responding to. Different skills are challenged and I’m constantly experiencing new things every day. That and being able to make a difference in people’s lives alone keeps me highly motivated.”

When he’s off-duty, Officer Jones enjoys fishing and playing sports. His professional goal is to move up through the ranks of the Pinecrest Police Department. He credits problem solving and physical fitness among his top attributes.
