The City of Miramar celebrates the life and legacy of the most renowned civil
rights leader, the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a parade on Monday, January
16, 2023, starting at 11am and ending at noon inside Lakeshore Park, 8501 S. Sherman
Circle.

International R&B singer, Michael Sterling, is the Grand Marshall. His popular songs
include Lovers & Friends and One More Chance. He is a Miramar High School graduate and a former member of the Grammy Award winning Band “Inner Circle”.

The parade is followed by a festival in the park from noon- 2pm with activities for the whole family, including music, kids’ zone, food vendors and entertainment. Admission is free.

January 16, 2023, marks America’s 38th celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Honoring King with a federal holiday is a testament to the unifying power of his legacy.
‘Solidarity’ was the key message of Dr. King where he hoped that people of every race, color and creed would not see themselves as separate but equals. This is the right of all human beings and it’s necessary that this message of unity is expressly carried out for generations.

“The best way to celebrate the life and legacy of such a great leader is to embody the things he wanted to see for a better America and a better world. The unity that occurs at these events is a testament that in Miramar we can live, work, and play together no matter where in life you hail from,” stated City Manager, Dr. Roy Virgin.

MLK Parade
Paying tribute to Dr. King’s legacy has been done in the city of Miramar now for over 8
years and one of the ways residents choose to mark the day is a community effort that
brings the young, the old and the in-between together. Activities around this celebration is
an opportunity to enjoy the day out with the entire family.

The parade that leads to Lakeshore Park is one that includes schools, organizations, elected
officials, civic groups, and state and county officials. Residents are urged to bring their own
blankets and lawn chairs to fully enjoy the festivities of the day.
